What happens after an Erasmus+ mobility ends or a project is finalised? What changes for participants, organisations and the wider adult education sector — and who gets the chance to experience these changes in the first place?

Issue 19 of the EPALE Journal on Adult Learning and Continuing Education, edited by Vanna Boffo, explores these questions through research and practice from across Europe. Developed within the framework of the RIA-AE Network, the issue looks beyond mobility figures to examine what Erasmus+ actually changes: in people’s lives, professional practices, organisations and communities.

From access and inclusion to transformative learning, organisational change and local impact, the contributions invite us to rethink what “impact” means — and under what conditions it can emerge and last.

Because the Erasmus+ story does not end when participants return home or projects end. Perhaps that is where the most important part begins.
